Intermediate exercises to help hockey goalies recover from hamstring strains.

This is a video reply to a question about recovering from a hamstring strain.  The goalie who asked the question has already done the basic stretching and has seen a sport physiotherapist so they are looking for the next step.  These are some intermediate exercises and if you do these religiously for three weeks, let me know and I will give you the next installment.  Aim for two sets of 10-15 reps for each.

Before you watch – the video quality is a little on the crappy side – had to shoot it on my webcam.  Oh well, you will get the idea.

WOW!!! That is awesome!! Congratulations I am so happy for you Anthony! That must feel great – thanks for making me feel like I was a part of it. It is the very best part of my job when I get to feel like I was a part of the team that helps athletes do what they need to do to succeed. Your team is lucky to have a goalie who takes his position and training seriously. Thanks for letting us know how great you did.

    Have an awesome summer Anthony.
    Cheers,
    Maria

    Hi Maria,

Well here’s an update. Finished the season 2 weeks ago. Hamstring still feels good and still stretching as much after as before a game. But I owe the first place finish in our division, the semi final shutout 2-0 and the championship game shut out 4-0 to your dedication and advice on how to get better and stronger as a goalie. THANK YOU

You will be glad to know that I have followed your program, as best as I could, and I played my first game since being injured. (lost 2to1) but felt really good while playing and streched afterward. I did feel a litle sore the next day but more like a training sore than a painful sore. THANKS for your help

Glad to help Anthony – give them a go for about 3 weeks and then let me know when you are ready for some more advanced movements. We need to build those hamstrings back up progressively. Gotta keep the ‘targets’ healthy ya know!
    Cheers,
    Maria
