One of the things I love most about working with hockey goalies is the fact that they are so in-tune with their body. The are detail oriented and they want their body to be finely tuned to maximize performance. I had a question from a goalie about a shin pain he experiences when he is on the ice. I created a video response for him that you can see here…
Now there are many reasons he may experience this shin pain – medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints), compartment syndrome, etc. But I am a big believer in starting with the basics – if it is one of those other causes then my simple exercises will not help it and he will need to consult a qualified sport physio anyway.
Please keep the questions coming!

Maria

GREAT VIDEO AND INSIGHT MARIA. I WAS ESPECIALLY INTERESTED TO NOTE THAT ANKLE PROBLEMS COULD AFFECT THE HIP. ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO I STARTED HAVING LOW BACK/LEFT HIP PAIN AND IT GRADUALLY BECAME WORSE TO THE POINT THAT I AM UNABLE TO DO A LOT OF MY WORK OUT. LUNGES, SIDE BRIDGES, AND SEVERAL OTHERS. THE PAIN IS REALLY BAD WHEN I GET UP IN THE MORNING AND I HAVE A HARD TIME W ROTATING MY SELF OUT OF BED. I DON’T LKE TO TAKE PAIN MEDS BUT I WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND HE PRESCRIBED 500 MGS OF NAPROXIN TWICE A DAY FOR THE INFLAMATION AND FLEXORIL AT BED AS NEEDED. THE PAIN HAS GREATLY SUBSIDED BUT STILL A STEADY TINGE BUT IM ABLE TO MOVE A LOT BETTER AFTER 5 DAYS. I STOPED THE FLEXORIL AND I AM DOING LIGHT LUNGES WHEN IT DOESENT HURT. I HAD A VERY SERIOUS STRETCH OF THE LIGAMENTS IN MY LEFT FOOT 30 YEARS AGO AND I CONSTANTLY HAVE A SLIGHT PAIN OR TIGHTNESS IN THAT ANKLE. I AM GOING TO TRY THESE EXERCISES FOR A MONTH AND LET YOU KNOW HOW IT WORKED FOR ME
THANKS RALPH BARD
P.S. I JUST LOVE THIS SIGHT AND RECOMEND IT TO A LOT OF PEOPLE
