Help me help you! Win a free training program!

Hi Gang,

I need your help!  I am just about to start working on my next online product to help hockey players with their off ice training.  I have a concept and an outline all set, but I want to check with you to make sure that I am going to deliver the info you want.  So, here is the deal, would you please either email me – maria@revolutionconditioning.com – or post a comment below telling me your approximate age, your position and the type of information that would be the most helpful to you.  For example -

  • I am 37 years old and I coach a team of 13 year olds – I would love some off-ice routines that I could put them through to improve their performance and reduce their risk of injury.  We have limited equipment.
  • I am a 16 year old goalie and would like a specific program for in-season training that I can do at home in only 30-minutes per day.
  • I am in my late 20′s and I am looking for a goalie specific program using only body weight exercises.

I hope you get the idea – be as specific as you can so I know if I am on the right track.  In exchange for your help I will enter everyone’s name into a draw and at noon ET on Friday I will draw one name at random.  If you are selected as the winner, then I will give you your pick of my off-ice hockey training programs at no charge.  You can pick from the HockeyStrong Training System for skaters, the Ultimate Goalie Training System for goalies or the Ultimate 12-Minute Warm-Up for Goalies.  Remember I need to have your suggestion by noon ET this Friday, July 16th.

Thanks again for your help.

Cheers,
Maria

PS – sorry for  the multiple emails this week – but, tomorrow look for a proper off-ice training post showing you 3-ways to improve your hip function and just maybe reduce your back pain.

I know this is late but I only found your site a few days ago and since then I’ve been sponging up as much info I can (Its great stuff too). One thing I would like to see is some programs for older players who are just getting into the game, so they dont waste time or money on something that won’t help them, but to build their skating muscles in an efficiant manner. Also I myself have been plagued by grion/hamstring pulls for a long time. I am generally sedintary thought the day and would like to see a protocal for injury prevention and mobilization in that area. Thanks. You are an amazing professional. Good luck!

Hey I know this is too late for the drawing but I’m a 19 year old female goalie playing collegiate hockey and I really need more exercises to become more explosive in my crease movement. Mostly to minimize the time it takes me to get from one side to the other, going from a butterfly to up and across, going across on my knees or just t-pushing across.

    Thanks!

I am a 15 year old goalie and play AAA and Highschool hockey in the winter and in the Spring I play spring hockey. In the Spring I train for highschool track 5 days a week for 1.5hrs each day. What should my dry land training program look like so I don’t over train?

    Thanks

I am 40, I coach skills and teams at all levels of youth hockey, and I am a Coaching Education Instructor. I am always looking for body-weight or limited equipment exercises, progressions, and cycles that increase flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination.

    Thank you

Glad to help! I am a Coach Mentor in ODHA. I also have started a new hockey school. I am a certified Power Skating Instructor. Your site has become a favorite of mine. Your information is presented in a very user friendly way and has become very valuable to my ogoing development, as a Coach and Mentor. I would suggest a few areas of need that could enhance your program.

    1) More skill specific training. For example Stick handling. Exercises and stretches

    2) more information on the Mental aspect of Training and staying committed.

    3) Age specific programs. For example a program for Atoms, Pee Wees.

I would like to thank you for your ongoing progress to your readers and the game of hockey!

I’m 16 years old, a goalie in ringette and hockey. I fractured my pelvis June ’09 and it’s still bothering me right now. I’m spending the summer rehabbing it and hopefully will be back for my training camp in August. I’m looking for a full program that could be an hour or more, but it needs options to cut it down to a shorter workout that I could just do at home when my schedule doesn’t allow me time for a full workout at the gym.

I like variation in my workout so a mix of body weight and other exercises would be good. I would also look for a workout that focuses not only on the main muscles but the small muscles that are usually overlooked.

    Thanks,
    Madeleine Cho

  7. Ken Owen July 14, 2010 at 12:58 pm #

Ken Owen here. I am 46 yrs old, 6 ft 3, weigh 292 and have been “playing” hockey for about 3 months. Of course, the most difficult thing for me is the skating. The arches of my feet are really killing me so I am looking into orthotics. Also, my core is getting hammered but the planks and ball crunches are helping and I am gaining more stamina slowly but surely. I was in very poor shape when I started. Now I am in just poor shape.

I would like something short and simple I can do on the floor with no props for core. I really like the planks. Maybe even just running in place for intervals to increase the stamina. The simpler the better so I have less of an excuse to get my butt out of the barcalounger.

I love your help and the game

    Signed,

    Ken

    Hello Maria,

I am a 15 year old goalie and I am always looking for goalie specific work outs that I can do to strengthen my hips and make me quicker on and off the ice.

    Hi Maria,

I’m a 44 year-old forward. I love lifting weights and working out at the gym, so would like more guidance as to what machines/free weights I should be using to increase my strength and speed. I would also like to know about cardio programs for hockey (I need to burn a good amount of fat). I I just discovered the Cardio Wave machine by Technogym and think that it has a similar motion to skating, and am curious as to what you think about it as the cardio machine of choice for hockey training. In general I hate cardio but have been pushing myself to do it for conditioning and fat burn.

    Thanks!

    Good morning Maria,
Love to help you since you are a great help to me.
I am 65 years young. I am the facilitator for a men’s hockey group that plays three mornings a week for 2 plus hours each session. I over see about 48 guys & two women hockey players. I am responsible for the goalies schedule, collecting the money & managing the players. Occasionally we have to sort out some on ice problems.
I play all forward positions. I used to love centre but now I like playing right wing the most even though I shoot left.

Most of the guys are in between 30-40 years old with a few younger & and me. Most of the guys think I about 50-ish. I feel like I am playing when I was 50 too.
I never had any real coaching or personal training & so what you are providing I real am enjoying.
I send your goalie coaching tips to my goalies, all ten of them.
I think you are right on & I have written to you & you have responded back almost right away.
Becuase of your advice, I have taken the month of July off from hockey for the first time in ten years. We play all year round. I am missing it a bit this month but it now feels like a real vacation.
I want to thank you again for your videos & training tips.
Any thing to help my flexibility & speed, & to maintain my stamina or get better is always appreciated.
Addressing injuries & recovery tips would be appreciated too.
Looking at equipment that is a factor in speed or range of motion etc would be interesting but that may be beyond your focus.
I think you are doing a great job!
    Hope this helped!

    Your friend,

    Ed

I am a 29 year old goalie. I’m looking for training that’s going to make me more flexible and quicker down low in this newer butterfly style. Bonus point if it’s something I can do at home with minimal equipment.

I am 47 years old and began skating/playing hockey in January 2010. I can’t make it to the rink more than 2 or 3 times a week, so am looking for off-ice stamina and strength training. Also, exercises for speed would be great.

    Thank!
