New off-ice training tool: Battling ropes

Hey Gang,

I wanted to share this new tool I just started using with the London, Ontario based athletes I train at the Revolution studio.  I also had the chance to attend an awesome workshop at the Perform Better Summit in Chicago a few weeks ago.  In this very short video you can see the basics and then later this week I will send out a few ways you can modify these exercises to help hockey players build stronger shoulders, hips and core.

Enjoy!|
Cheers,
Maria

PS – let me know if you have any questions about off-ice training for hockey – I am always looking for topic ideas.

    Hi Andrew,

Remember that not all off-ice training that helps a goalie’s play on the ice has to mimic a specific movement on the ice. So if strengthening the core right through to the shoulders and hips is something we are trying to achieve regardless of the sport then just the basic movements are dynamite! To progress I have used a wide stance and had the player shift their hips side to side while creating the rope wave which puts the adductors in a dynamically lengthening position – just one example of a more goalie specific position from which to use the ropes, but always starting with the foundation movements.

    Great question.
    cheers,
    Maria
