Conspiracy Against Goalies
The conspiracy against goalies is coming to your league.
Do you ever feel like the NHL is out to get you?
They want more scoring and the only way to do that is to make you look bad.
Not always, but when the NHL makes a rule change, it often filters down to the leagues below. We talked about how 3-on-3 overtime would probably filter down the other day and today I have another prediction.
It seems like the NHL will rule to make goalie equipment significantly smaller for the 2016-17 season. As I understand it they are looking at the chest protector, jersey, glove, blocker and pants.
They are making you smaller in the net.
So if you rely on your angles and being more of a blocking goalie, you better be VERY good with your angles and hope that the shooters don’t notice how much more space there is when they are picking corners.
For those of you who don’t like the sound of that option, here is your alternative.
You better become an outstanding athlete.
Not just strong, not just quick, not just flexible, but everything all rolled in to one. Almost like an acrobat.
Some of you make acrobatic saves now – by accident – but I mean that you have so much control on your skates, so much precision in your movement and so much patience before you pounce. That is the future of goaltending.
So if you are not the quickest and most agile player on your team, better start working toward that because the future is coming and most of your competitors don’t even realize it.
Here are a few things you can start with…

You don’t often get the opportunity for a head start, so my suggestion is to take full advantage!
PS – even if you don’t have micro hurdles, you can still do these drills, just lay out some hockey socks on the floor or regular socks or whatever.
