Happy Monday and welcome to Pre-Season week. That’s right, the theme for this week’s goalie training articles is what to do during the pre-season as you get into try-outs, practices and eventually games.
If you have been following a program like Shutout Academy or UGT 3.0, then you are all good – just keep going with that. Don’t change a THING.
If you have not been following a goalie specific mobility routine or you have been doing the same stretching routine over and over for the past 6-months, we need to adjust that a bit.
You might want to start by downloading the Butterfly Challenge, it is a free 14-day goalie specific stretching program I put together for you. You can get it here >

It only takes about 10-minutes to complete and you will be shocked by how quickly you are able to unlock extra mobility in your hips, most goalies like you notice an improvement in the first three days.
I am not saying you will reach your full flexibility potential in three days, that will actually take months or years, but we don’t have the luxury of that much time, so any improvement at this stage is helping you stop more pucks.
Already doing the Butterfly Challenge?
That is great – keep doing it. It won’t hurt you to do it longer than 14 days. You could also supplement it with a few other stretches I have posted for you over at HockeyTrainingProTV (https://www.youtube.com/hockeytrainingprotv) like this one for example…
Or this one…
Improve your consistency
I have been around long enough to know that some of you are nodding your head saying, “yeah, I’ve done that, I’ve done that…”.
So here is my question to you… “Have you done it at least 5 days per week for the last 6-weeks minimum?”.
If not, no time like the present. It sounds to me like you know what to do, you just need to do it, so start today with your self-myofascial release and your goalie stretches – take that theory and put it into practice.
If you are doing all the right things and you ARE doing them consistently, then relax, that is one less thing to worry about heading into your season, you are on track – awesome job! Keep doing what you are doing.
