Hi Gang,

Here it is …part two of the video showing you the exact off-ice workout that some of the pro hockey players went through at my Revolution Conditioning studio in London, Ontario.  This one gets into the new meta-circuits I am using to train the hockey players this off-season.

Enjoy!

Hi Gang,

Hope all my friends in the U.S.A had a great 4th of July holiday weekend!  Hope you celebrated your Independence with some off-ice training for hockey…okay maybe not.

Today I want to share with you an exercise that I use on the ice and off the ice to help hockey players explode off their change of direction.  I think there are many players out there who waste the first step of their cross over start and this drill will hopefully teach you not to do that and as a result, instantly put you half a step ahead of the competition.

Make sure you think about your foot position on the ice as you do this drill.  Do not simply push under, turn and run straight ahead.  The foot that is stepping across should remain at a 45-90 degree angle to your direction of travel.  You cannot run on your skates, so make sure you are pushing toward the outside for the first 1-2 steps.  After completing the initial cross over step and 1-2 additional acceleration steps, just slowly decelerate and reset.  You may also wish to incorporate this type of start into some of your sprint training over the summer.

Enjoy!

off ice agility drill for goaliesHope you all had a great weekend – it was a long weekend for the ‘regular people’ in Canada.  Time to celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday and drink some beer.  I wrote a blog post over at my Revolution Conditioning site about what the weekend means to Canadians – you can read it here -  May 2-4 Weekend in Canada.  I did not sit around and drink beer all weekend, but I did go see the movie Robin Hood which was very good and then on Sunday Paul and I went running and bike riding – a nice active day with some time to sit out on the front porch and read.

Because there is no rest for the wicked, I worked yesterday and so did my athletes.  We had a great sessions all day – well done gang!  Today I want to share with you the general training split I use when I train hockey goalies and skaters.  Check out the article to get an idea of the rough outline we work through from May thru August.  Just click the link below:
