Hip Impingement in Hockey Goalies: Try this simple self evaluation.
Posted by: | CommentsHi Gang,
I have been interested in learning more and more about femoroacetabular hip impingement (FAIS) in hockey goalies and the more I talk about it the more I am amazed at how many goalies play with pain in the front of their hip and think it is normal. It is not normal and here is a little self evaluation that I got from Sean Skahan and Kevin Neeld over at HockeyStrengthandConditioning.com – I am a contributor to the site and this is my link, so if you decide to join I do earn a couple bucks of commission, just so you know.
Check out the video to learn more about what causes hip impingement in hockey goalies and then take the self evaluation.
Cheers,
Maria

Kevin Neeld’s new Hockey Development Program for $0
Posted by: | CommentsHi Gang,
Sorry for the second post in two days, but I want to tell you about a new program that my colleague Kevin Neeld has put together. Here is what Kevin did, he went to some of the best hockey strength and conditioning coaches anywere (plus me – ha ha) and he did interviews where he got us to spill some of our very best training tips in our areas of expertise. For example I talked with Kevin about off ice goalie training. Here are some of the others:
- Brijesh Patel – Mental toughness for hockey
- Jim Snider – Hockey speed training
- Kim McCullough - Training female hockey players
- Eric Cressey – Developing rotational power
- Brian St. Pierre – Nutrition for hockey players
- Plus about six other topics
Kevin is making this new program available $0, zip, zero, na-da for the next little while. I think the launch date is June 1st, so head over to his website to learn more about it. He will also give you an option to purchase the program so you can listen to it over and over again. If you do purchase it, I will make a few bucks off that or you can just listen to the free audios and keep your cash. I think the info is great, so however you do it, take advantage of the opportunity. Click the link below to learn more.

Butterfly Goalies: Is that pinch actually a hip impingement?
Posted by: | Comments
As I continue to study the science and mechanics of off ice goalie training, I am intruiged by the number of hip impingement injuries that seem to occur in hockey goalies who play with the butterfly style. My mission as a strength and conditioning coach to goaltenders (and all the athletes I train) is to create off ice goalie drills that will minimize the risk of injury while maximizing performance on the ice.
I asked some of my colleagues over at HockeyStrengthandConditioning.com and none of us were sure if the increased incidence was due to better diagnosis or an actual increase in femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS). Here is a summary of what FAIS is and a few ways you may be able to reduce the risk of irritating it. If you ever get a pinching feeling in the front of you hip, then read this article.
What hockey goalies need to know about the pinch in their hip.
