Lateral Power for Hockey Goalies
Quick and powerful lateral movements are a key component of success for hockey goalies. Below is a short video showing you a simple and effective lateral power exercise specifically for goalies. You will notice that I am using micro hurdles for this drill, but you could use mini-cones, small blocks of wood, basically anything that you will not hurt yourself if you trip over it. Make sure you have enough space to do this drill – safety first!
Remember if you are trying to train power and quickness, then you must execute the exercise in a quick and powerful fashion. Perform the drill for 5-10 seconds and then rest (active rest is fine) for 25-50 seconds. If you are doing longer intervals to the point where your movement is slowing and you are fatiguing (legs are burning), then you are working on your conditioning, not quickness.
